About us

The Hattie Carthan Herban Farm is an educational food justice herb farm working to promote the use of herbs for holistic individual, communal and environmental health.

Our approach is holistic and direct in nature aimed at finding creative ways to bridging the gap among the generations in order to collaborate in the efforts of dispensing knowledge pertinent for continued sustainable living, healing and well being

On the farm, community residents of all age groups become educated and empowered to cultivate deep wellness within themselves and others using hands, heart, nature, and plants.

In a society more familiar with corporate logos than backyard plants, it is imperative that we reclaim the innate wisdom of identifying, honoring, and utilizing the plant kingdom. The earth’s bounty is always reaching out to us, offering its aid to restore us to vitality.

The herb farm resides on what used to be land used for dumping and is a Bedford Stuyvesant community revitalization project.  We have utilized yarrow, sheep sorrel, fungi, sunflowers and alfalfa in our remediation work to help clean the soil

To schedule educational farm tours or to inquire about rates for herbalism workshops or plant medicine councils please send email to hattiecarthangarden@yahoo.com .

Workshops are crafted to suit the needs of participants. Senior and youth groups are welcome.
